Small Town Comfort
Keeping Our History Alive
The original town was named for two early settlers, Adolphus Livernash and Stephen Moore, who built a one-room cabin at the site. in 1880 a school was opened to train the remittance men who came from England, who were then settling the area, on successful ranching techniques. In 1874 the first post office was opened, with mail delivered once a week by horseback.
Livermore, Colorado was founded as a ranching community in the 1800’s and today still retains much of that character. The North Fork of the Cache La Poudre River runs through the lovely and expansive Livermore valley, located north of LaPorte and just west of Highway 287. Once a gathering place for early miners, loggers and settlers, Livermore is now an area defined by a zip code. Several large subdivisions with homes, vacation cabins and vacant recreation land, large ranches and open lands, partly Colorado State Parks and partly Roosevelt National Forest with some BLM land mixed in.
